That kinda sounds a bit nuts typing it out like that but fact. At this time BASE jumping was very taboo to talk about at dropzones, so I had to keep it to myself. I jumped for about 8 or 9 yrs practicing tracking and on heading openings. Once I felt dialed to make all the right decisions without thinking about it, through instinct, it was time to take the challenge. This was my first jump in Norway. It took 4 hrs to hike this fiord to the 3200 ft exit point (cliff). This day my whole goal to this jump was to fly as far away from the cliff as possible. To make sure my tracking was on point. The way this cliff is shaped there is a ledge you could hit 12 sec after you jump, if you didn’t fly forward (track) and to clear it you need to delta track for 6 sec. My goal was to do a double backflip with in 6 sec. with my bike, track away from that cliff for 6 sec. then I could drop for another 6 sec in this pocket before opening. Max freefall 18 sec. This jump I maxed out the freefall and opened at 400 ft. Ground rush. This was the first day I reversed my pilot chute to pull with my left hand because I could not trust my right shoulder to stay in socket any more. I had a rotator cuff surgery 4 month earlier. I was nervous. I had to have total focus and control. No second chances in this sport. And a second of hesitation could be life or death. Game on…” #hoffmanteam
